Looking after jewellery at home
Always store your jewellery pieces individually in a jewellery box, pouch or other soft container to avoid scratches and discolouration. Remember to keep your chains fastened so they don’t become tangled. The jewellery box provided with your order is a great place to store unworn jewellery.
Avoid wearing jewellery when applying any cosmetics such as lotions, perfumes and hairspray, when cleaning, or when in chlorinated water as the chemicals may cause discolouration.
To clean your jewellery use a mild soap with lukewarm water and a soft bristled toothbrush, rinse thoroughly with clean water then pat dry with a soft microfibre cloth. Ensure your jewellery is completely dry as damp jewellery can become discoloured over time.
Over time silver can oxidise naturally taking on a darker tone, to remove this try this at home cleaning technique and buff with a jewellery polishing cloth when your jewellery is dry. Never use any harsh chemicals to clean your jewellery.
To bring the shine back in your jewellery, gently polish with a non-abrasive, anti-tarnish jewellery polishing cloth. Polished jewellery can be waxed with Renaissance Wax to protect the surface from further tarnish.
White Gold & Plated Jewellery
Electroplating is a process in which the surface of one metal is coated with a thin layer of another to provide a long-lasting, hardwearing finish. White gold is often plated with rhodium to enhance the bright white shine.
Do not use any jewellery cleaner or aggressive polishing to clean plated jewellery.
Rinse your jewellery in mild soap and use a soft toothbrush or soft microfibre cloth with as little friction as possible. You can polish white gold very gently with a polishing cloth.
